Who are we?

The Pacey family came to Key West during the Christmas of 1995 with the intention of buying a condo. They ended up buying to slips at the Oceanside  Marina on Stock Island instead, and within a year they owned the Reef Raiders scuba diving and snorkel business at Conch Harbor.

"What happened was I picked up a real estate brochure at the airport and read it on the  plane as we headed home," Connie Pacey said, "I told Jan about the dive boat business and five months later we bought it."

By June 1996, Jan and his wife, Connie, and his son Vance were back in Key West taking trips  out of the Conch Harbor on the Reef Raider catamaran. The deal was set. And in November, the insurance man from Kansas City, Mo., and his  family were in the dive boat business. Reef Raiders was renamed SeaBreeze  Charters and then moved to the marina at the Galleon Resort.

"None of us had any experience in this," Jan said. "But we were determined as a family, to make it work."

Jan oversees the operation. Connie is the  administrator and Vance is in charge of operations and marketing.

"We are a snorkel and dive boat," Vance said, "and take both groups out on the same trip. Families enjoy it because while mom and dad scuba dive, the  kids can snorkel. When we get groups some scuba dive, some snorkel. With SeaBreeze the group doesn't have to split up. We go to two reefs and usually stay in water 35 to 40 feet deep, so it's a good recreational dive."

The 45-foot catamaran holds 49 people, but the Paceys limit occupancy to 46.

SeaBreeze Charters also certifies guests in PADI or resort diving. They use the pool at the Galleon for instruction and as a classroom area.

What are people saying about us?

Dear Jan & Connie,

Mike & I had a great time in  Key West.  We so enjoyed meeting and getting to know you both. Thank you so much for all your help.  Sea Breeze/Reef Raiders is top notch and your staff is incredible, professional and so personable.  I just turned  in my readers reading for Rodale's and told them just that!  I am so lucky to be going on another dive trip in November!! My dive shop in Independence is going to Belize and it's such a bargain my brother and I are  going.  I'm thrilled!!  So I'm hitting the books to take the advanced test.  Once again thank you both for everything and hello to Vance.  And I hope Debbie is not coming your way!!!  AID

WOW!!  I had the best vacation ever!  I would like to thank you and Dean!!  He made my underwater experience a great one.  I had a wonderful time and everyone was extremely nice.  Thanks again and good luck  to all of you!

Jan,

Thanks for your kind message. Mexico was great and we experienced far fewer equipment problems once we'd taken the salt water out of the equation!!

I'm glad the crew  enjoyed working with us – I know the days were long but hope it offered them a bit of variety in their jobs and gave them the opportunity of seeing how a television film crew works.  I think they were surprised at hoe hard we  worked actually, which can't be a bad thing!!  I hope they continue to enjoy telling tales about the shoot – we certainly are!!

Thanks once again for all your help and rest assured that if any BBC crew ever has  any intention of filming in the Keys again and needs a boat crew, I will certainly send them in your direction.

Kind regards,

Patricia
